UNREST, Sleep Dirt
& Pink Mercury live in Bremen / 09.07.2005 |

12:30 pm - UNREST meets with its crew at their practise room to load the whole equipment which got already packed together the day before into the van. At about 1:00 pm everything is stowed away already and now a light nervousness about the upcoming gig hovers above everyone but however, it is time to get started - let's head to the KuBa! The transporter with the PA rolls in at the same time as we arrive and it gets unloaded at once. Inside of the club they are still busy with the building. Though the stage is already constructed, single pieces of it still need a solid connection. It still looks quite chaotic inside, you see cases, boxes, trunks and chests holding all the equipments of the bands for the show this evening just standing everywhere around. But of course, each band does have its own corner here so that they have got everything together and nothing can get lost!
2:00 pm - The backdrop of UNREST gets hung up as well as the lighting system prepared. Besides the monitors and lights the first thing that goes onto the stage is the drum set of UNREST. It takes about 30 minutes to erect the drum set but for the complete installation of the lighting system it takes a bit longer, of course. The equipment of Sleep Dirt and Pink Mercury gets installed afterwards. 4:15
pm - Soundcheck
for UNREST.
5:00
pm - Soundcheck
for Sleep Dirt
followed by Pink Mercury. 7:00
pm -
Doors open !!! - Tension grows!!! 8:15 pm - Pink Mercury has its performance and even if unterestimated much at first - proved to be the absolute best heat up of this evening! That partly quite defiant rocking sound of this newcomer band really fits into the program perfectly and is just ideal to bring the audience into the right mood. Applause guaranteed!!! 9:00 pm - After a short break for conversion Sleep Dirt enters the stage who with their progressive rock connected with a brilliant video show on a small screen actually also projects some question marks onto the foreheads of the audience. Unfortunately, not everyone aquires a taste for their music right away. But as a matter of fact, this band really understands a whole lot about music! - As you know, music goes into many directions, so one really should pull oneself together and/ or just leave the room, if one doesn't like this kind of music. I absolutely don't have any understanding for people that think they must put such bands down just because they don't play their musical style !!! Sleep Dirt does have style and is doing honest music visual and audible that stimulates to meditate over, and that is how the band professionally did their performance this evening. - Hats off !!! 10:30 pm - After a record suspicous short break for rebuilding UNREST enters the stage as soon as their compulsary intro of a howling wolf resounds and gives full kick ass to the audience beforehand with the opener "Run Through The Night". In addition to that Claus Wiechert (g.), the wit, meets and greets and surely irritates all fans when stumbling onto the foggy stage wearing a funny robot mask made of paper on his head that he has found somewhere backstage. - That's it! With that one half of the audience was drawn to UNREST at once! But the best is yet to come! Out In The Rain followed by Far Far Away one of the new songs of their still unreleased and soon upcoming album.
Being in absolute best condition frontman S๖nke Lau is just giving everything as always! He is running up and down, from right to left and crosswise over the stage just like he would give his last concert ever. But that is exactly how we all know him! And the audience promptly gives its feedback by roaring loudly and intractable asking for more - which is, as for the condition of North Bremen, really something!!! ;))) Now Straight To My Heart follows and then Lost, another new songs of the upcoming album that actually deals about an unhappy love/ separation but here the audience proves its faithfullness and demonstratively pushes forward to the first rows even more. Then full heat again with I Hate You and Master Of Disguise, two gnarly songs just one after the other !!! It gets a bit calmer afterwards with the ballad Tears Of Desire which is also a song from the new album and presented by Claus. Sometimes even the love to a bike can be stronger than the love to a woman, that's what the song is about and meets with high approval as Claus is turning to the audience with that one. Mentioning Claus, as we know well, there are two songs of his solo project: Santa Claus to download on the official website of UNREST. The best thing is yet to come because for the first time ever Claus is singing one of these songs live, that is Beate Uhse (!!!) while S๖nke in the meantime is slipping over the stage just to steal some quick photos of the audience for himself. ;))) This short break has been just perfect for S๖nke to recover and to present the next three gnarlatious songs: Sadness & Darkness, Runaway, followed by Under The Gun . There was party in the first rows but also in the back of the club finally and at last one gives in to that typical behaviour "I am cool and won't move, no way". Arms are rising high into the air, hair is whipping into the face of the neighbour and everybody is roaring as loud as he can and as much as he can remember the lyrics. With Back To The Roots already the fourth song which also is the actual title of the new album gets presented this evening, and this one too is taken up by the audience with great enthusiasm once again. As final then Stars Would Shine and Never Surrender two great songs one just couldn't and wouldn't renounce. Of course, UNREST wasn't to go off stage without giving at least one encore; and this one followed promptly. Down On My Knees and Dont X The Line hit our ears merciless and let the people simply freak out, especially the ones standing in the first row. The result was - you can already guess - of course, a second encore: Watch Out !!! Much to the fans' regret UNREST unfortunately doesn't let them persuade for a third encore yet but hey - having had 18 songs this evening everybody surely was served pretty good, eh?! - Crazy!! Altogether a quite outstanding concert with an excellent sound and, most of all, first class organization. - Now, at this point big praise is given to Martin (Sleep Dirt) who has been responsible for this absolute professionally organized event !!!! Big praise also to both soundmen Volker & Ralf, lightman Stefan as well as to the complete crew that helped with the installations and without whom the entire event wouldn't have been possible !!!
